Ocean Breath (Ujjayi)
What it is A practice where you slightly constrict the back of the throat to create a soft, audible sound — like ocean waves, or someone whispering with their mouth closed. The breath becomes deliberate, deep, and steady. You can hear yourself breathing.
What it does Ujjayi, often translated as "victorious breath," lengthens the breath naturally, balances the nervous system, and creates a steady internal rhythm that the mind can ride on. It's often paired with movement in yoga, but it stands alone as a powerful practice in its own right. For travelers, it's the practice for in-between moments — the breath you can do walking through an airport, the breath that brings you back into your body without anyone noticing.
