Bellows Breath (Bhastrika)
What it is A vigorous practice with forceful inhales and forceful exhales, equal in intensity, driven from the diaphragm and the belly. Both sides of the breath are active — unlike Kapalabhati, which only emphasizes the exhale. Bhastrika generates real heat in the body and produces a state of clear, alert energy.
What it does This is the practice when you need significant energy, fast. It works faster than caffeine and produces a different kind of alertness — cleaner, more grounded, and without the crash. Practiced regularly, it builds lung capacity and resilience. It's the most physically demanding practice in the library.
Important: This practice is not for everyone. Skip it if you're pregnant, have high blood pressure, a cardiovascular or respiratory condition, or have had recent abdominal surgery. Approach it with respect even if you're healthy — start slowly, build gradually, and stop if you feel lightheaded.
Use this when
You need significant energy, fast
You feel cold or sluggish
You want to build lung capacity over time
You need to break out of a low energy state
Length: 10 minutes Time of day: Morning — never close to sleep
